The status quo was preserved in the Capital League on the weekend with three of the top four claiming wins whilst Queanbeyan City slipped further off the pace after being held to a draw by bottom of the table Narrabundah.
ANU FC maintained their healthy lead at the top of the ladder after they fought hard to record a narrow 2-1 win over O’Connor Knights at ANU Willows. A tenth of the season for leading scorer Danny Krajacic and a sixth of the campaign for Chase Deans was enough for the side but the Knights, for whom Brett Forward notched their goal, were close to causing an upset.
White Eagles remain poised waiting for any kind of slip-up from ANU FC as they improved their goal difference when defeating Weston-Molonglo FC 4-0. The Eagles lead the chasing pack on goal difference with strikes from Brad Sawyer, Matthew Grecl, Thai Tran and Stephen MacHale helping them to victory.
Canberra Olympic are pushing for silverware following their win on the weekend as they dented Tuggeranong United’s claims for a top four place with a 3-1 win. Richard Santiago netted his seventh of the season for Olympic with Oliver Wiederkehr and Dimitri Mihailakis adding to the tally. Andrew Sellers pulled one back for Tuggeranong who are in danger of missing the finals after being touted as one of the favourites in pre-season.
Narrabundah meanwhile secured a fourth draw of the season as a goal from Jonathan Caggiano earned them a share of the spoils against Queanbeyan City. Leading scorer Daniel Crkovski scored for City who have been struggling of late and need to rediscover their early season form in order to keep pushing for finals football.
